Tip 2. Start A Compost Pile
When you are getting away from a reliance on chemical fertilizers, you'll find that nothing restores nutrients to the soil like a homemade compost pile. You'll find that by spreading compost on your plants that you'll help them grow and get the nutrients they need, and you'll find that this is a great way to recycle organic waste. Add your kitchen scraps to the pile and keep air flowing through, which helps things break down. Mix up the contents with a shovel, or take a look at using a tumbling container to help you keep things together and well-mixed.
Important Lesson Learned - Whatever you do, don't put the compost next to your house. I put it in a location were I could literally toss my waste out the window and land it in the compost. Little did I realize that other critters liked the compost. This was a compost side-effect. Needless to say, the next compost was quite a distance from my house. Tip 3 - come back on Monday
